Hard Work Pays Off

So I have been beginning to model assets to the level I dubbed ‘The Cove’.

One thing I wanted to emphasize with the level was high detail meshes that illustrate great modularity.

I started off by modeling a rock wall mesh. It began as a bunch of deformed spheres that I took into ZBrush. After sculpting them and creating the high poly that I would project the normal from, I brought the mesh together for the low, which came out as 1,212 tris. A little higher than I would have liked, but it worked extremely nicely.

The images below were rendered from UDK, and have three sets of the modular rock wall in it.

I also wanted to make a modular mesh that could rotate and still work smoothly, for an arc that could make a rounded wall. I’m pretty happy with the results.
